Website designers play a major role in creating and
designing websites and web pages serving various purposes to people. The novice
website designers are involved only in designing the appearance of web pages and have nothing to do with the development part. Experienced
designers approach a step further to empowering themselves by learning various programming languages so that they can
design as well as develop the whole website which is the job of a web developer.
As the website designing job is a multidisciplinary project it involves contribution of experts from several fields, such as the programmers,
graphic designers,
content writers, desktop publishers and database administrators. The last four branches are combined to call what is a
job of designer. Designing is more of an art rather than mere technical task. Many
designers opine that website designing is more than just profession, to some of them it is obsession. However, ultimately one has to earn from the labor they put in designing the pages. Here is a brief know-how about the job market of designers.
1. Technical education
the technical knowledge for designing profession needs mastering of some markup languages (HTML, XML), scripting languages (JavaScript, PHP, Ajax etc) for user side and if possible for server side too, database systems and multimedia technologies (Adobe Flash animation tools, Toon Boom, Kool Moves, Maya 6.5, 3D Studio Max etc.) for graphics etc. Additional knowledge about the server administration, search engine optimized content writing and management of the whole project will enhance their skill. However they can gain this knowledge during the course of work also.
2. Sense is inevitable
The sense of designing, the creativity of a designer is more than the technical skills. It is not about how the tools are used for designing, rather about which tool to use when and where. Companies look for designers who have rich aesthetic sense that reflects in their web designs. Experience also helps to develop this.
3. Job types
Working as
website designers can be prospectus if one is aware of the current pricing, rates, job types, legal issues, copy rights and contracts etc. website designers can work as amateurs, professional designer or developer, freelancer or volunteer some organization before embarking in the market. Companies always pay for experience and skill. Hence professional degrees are must. Graphics designer, project managers, computer scientists are also counted among the designers.
The job prospect of website designers is very bright as this is the fastest growing field of profession. According to Bureau of Labor Statistics, US, the computer scientists (including website designers and developers) have a bright prospect in the next decade (2016). With the increase in use of internet, print media are facing sharp decline whereas website content writing is developing fast as a
career and has future prospect.
